Kitties with the fur

Saturday, January 2, 2010

I came home last night to find an atrocious mess. When you pay someone to clean two litter boxes and feed your cats, you expect it to happen. Not so, apparently. It was a disaster. It was awful. Two weeks of un-scooped cat messes did not a happy person make. My front door was open. My bathroom faucet is leaking a gallon of water an hour. I leave and things fall apart. Sad face. They were very happy to see me. It was extremely cold in my house, a whopping 55 degrees since the pilot light went out. I let Kostya sleep under the covers with me and the kitties.

I had a good time. I left my glorious 65 degree weather for considerably colder weather and several feet of snow. I enjoyed an anti Christmas with my family. Apparently Christmas will not be happening next year. I was informed of that the day after Christmas, while my step mother ripped down the Christmas decorations like a lion tearing out the throat of a gazelle and told the lady on the Weather Channel to "screw you and your holiday fucking cheer." I suppose, if that's how you feel about it, let's also do away with Thanksgiving (who needs it anyway. Hamburgers are overrated) and Easter. Holiday fucking cheer, indeed.

I went and stayed with friends this past week. It was a good time. I always feel like I go home when I go back to Iowa City. It's an odd feeling. I got to see everybody, and there was only a little drama. I bought books at Houseworks (a whole bag for $5. I love it) things for my sister from Kidworks, stocked up on paint chips and actually bought paint for my living room. Teal Zeal. I only bought one gallon, which I thought would cover the whole room. I was wrong, but that's okay since I decided I only wanted to paint two walls. I want to get a brown color and possibly paint the other two walls, the floorboards and the trim. It's a little dark, but I like it. I'm going to paint some of the bathroom purple tomorrow.

I went to the store tonight since my landlord gave me a gift card to the grocery store. I bought food. Real food. Potatoes, garlic, an onion, lentils, carrots, yogurt, milk, cheese, eggs and some toss it in the crock pot meals. and I intend on making clam chowder and cheese and broccoli soup, something with the lentils. I bought only one can of Spagettios. I was craving them. I wanted to make cream of scallop soup, but I forgot I am no longer in Iowa City and our grocery store does not carry things like that. We're lucky enough to get exoctic foods like bananas.

My neighbor visited today. Noticed my car was gone and figured I went home. Asked how I was, how was home. I painted. Told me it was pretty warm while I was gone. I taped the floor boards. Kostya growled at him again and I suppressed the urge to tell him good boy. He told me about his kids. I painted around the window. He got the hint after a bit and said he was going to go finish his book.

I am going to go watch some Freaks and Geeks while I work on some unfinished Christmas presents, eat cheese popcorn and drink some Jones. That's right. While you weren't watching I bought 3 cases at Target. Just another thing I miss about Iowa. Real grocery stores, Jones Soda, Navarette's, my friends, that boy, real grocery stores, cheese popcorn, real grocery stores and my friends.
