Horses of courses

Today was a nice day. I'm sorry for those of you still stuck with 45 inches of snow and -30 temperatures, but today was sunny and 45. I took the dog to the fair grounds and let him run. I would like to believe that he enjoyed his boots, since he didn't get any thorns in his paws. He sounds like a little pony when he runs. It is amusing.

I spent some time with Ahab and the new horses at the ranch. They got 9 new horses, and two of them are in really, really rough shape. One is a pretty brown mare named May. She is pregnant, but severely underweight. They're not sure her foal will make it. The other is my personal favorite, a little white and cream paint named Moon Walker. He is so skinny. You can see every bone in his body. He needs to gain at least 200 pounds, and they thought he was going to die on the trailer ride to the ranch. They're still not sure he will make it. They said he and the mare and one of the other horses (Einstein) hadn't ever really seen people. For never having spent time with people, Moon Walker was surprisingly calm. I tried to brush him, but I think it hurt so much he wouldn't really tolerate it. Add to it the fact that I'm pretty sure he had never ever seen a brush, he was a very tolerant horse. He likes to have his ears rubbed and his cheeks scratched. I hope he doesn't die, because he is really sweet and calm, but I figure even if he does (which will make me very angry) at least he will have died knowing that not all people are complete wastes of space.
