It's one of those days. We won our football game today. Hurray for the football team. I didn't know if I would have enough kids to play through the entire game (I only had 20 of my 40 show up) so I was going to let them go after halftime. I also lost 5 of the ones who did show up to go work in the concession stand. (which the band got about $700 from!) I figured that since they get 3rd quarter off (which is ridiculous, imho) and during 4th quarter we hardly play anyways because at that point they've almost always used all of their time outs, I would just let them go after half time. Parent reaction....
"YOU CANT DO THAT TO THOSE POOR BOYS!" and "You will upset a lot of people if you let those kids go because they need to hear the fight song. Just sayin'. And also, we want you to play Hey Baby. Just an idea."
Seriously? I understand that the band is there to support and encourage, but are they gonna die if we miss playing the fight song for the 15th time? The game does not rely on the band's presence. I'm sorry. And also, if you want to make requests, if I don't have key players because they went to Grandma's in Oklahoma, you ain't gonna hear it. Just sayin'. You can't play Hey Baby with 4 trumpets, 2 saxophones, 4 percussionists and 3 flute players.
And if you want the band to play more, let me play over the cheerleaders, or tell them to shut up and quit taking my time outs and quarters and my first downs. Seriously. We had an agreement and they are breaking it. We alternate, not "Oh sorry we forgot." Not that it really matters because every time we have a time out I put my arms up, count off and WHERE IS THE BAND???
Oh. Sorry. We all set our horns down and are currently texting, visiting with non band friends and generally not paying attention. That will end during basketball. Whatever. I digress...
It was gorgeous today. I took Kostya for a nice, long walk on the trail next to the rail road tracks. We were stalked for about 3/4 of a mile by a horse. It didn't seem at all afraid of Kostya so I let him sniff through the fence. They touched noses and I tried to get a picture but I was too late. It was cute.

I also watched disc 2 of Freaks and Geeks, which reminds me a lot of my own high school experience. Go figure on that one. With popcorn. And a cross stitch that currently has about 8 hours put into it and its not even halfway done. And grape kool-aid.
I can't wait for Thanksgiving break!
