What is this?!
These warm sheets are MINE!
Today was a good day for chili. I never used to like chili, especially if it had beans in it. But now, I really like it. Especially with cheese and crackers. Mmm. I hated a lot of things I now enjoy, like burritos and fried potatoes and pot roast (I know!) and just about anything where the food is mixed together. Meat loaf is still out. That stuff is just evil. We got 5 inches of snow. Kostya has no idea what to do with it. I let him out and he didn't want to step in it. Then when he did he barked at it, tried to growl at it, and decided to eat it. They closed the highways out here. I was told while I was volunteering at the theatre that in the past year alone there have been 20 fatalities on the highway from here to Lamar. There aren't any windblocks, and it gets really, really icy. Not so fun.
I have a list of Christmas presents. I know exactly what everyone is getting this year, which is an upgrade from last year. They are going to be awesome that is for sure.
(on another random note... I just went to get ice cream from the freezer and everything has melted. Shit. Now it is all outside in the cooler. My landlord said he has a new fridge in the garage, but I don't have a key. He lives in Denver. Joy.) Today in church the choir did great. I loved the song we sung, Go in Love. It is so pretty.
You know what's not pretty? Our Christmas 'cantata'.
We sing one song that I like, which is the theme from Finlandia, or Song of Peace by Jean Sibelius. We sang it once through, and then the 'director' said "Hmm. I might just have my 8 singers do that, because it's too pretty to butcher."
Excuse me? You picked this other nasty twang twang garbage, brought in some tone deaf saxophones who completely destroy any resemblance to music that it could have ever had, call the rest of your VOLUNTEER choir 'leftovers', hardly let us sing anything, can't coun't your way out of a paper bag and now you want to take the ONE song I actually enjoy away from me? I said if I do not get to sing that song, I will not be coming anymore. That lady drives me insane. She can't coun't. Doesn't know what she is playing when she plays and I'm pretty sure she plays pin the note on the staff back there behind her piano. I know it's bad when the pastor from their church and I sit in the back row (we're leftovers, after all) and she turns and says to me "If you really want a laugh, I will loan you their Easter cantata!"
I would also like to say that my 6th graders are playing Finlandia for the Christmas concert, and they're doing great. If the 30 of them can do it, I think the 25 of us should be able to. One would hope.
